"At the time I was terribly confused about very fundamental things, like marriage, relationships, chastity, true love, true heroism. I was desperately looking around
for just one example of a couple who did things the right way, got married, stayed married, and did not regret it. I clung to examples that I found in books, mostly old classics, and fairy tales. A couple people close to me could not understand why I loved fairy tales so much. I don't think I really could have explained it to them, at the time. Then I found the book [The Shadow of the Bear] in the house of an acquaintence, and asked them to borrow it. In a time of my life when I was rather afraid of boys and men, I read your tale of the two young men, sleuthing the streets of New York City, risking their lives to bring the man who murdered a priest to justice. Bear and Fish were young, they were men, but they were strong and also kind. They were heroic. It was awesome."

"I don't have any idea of what, if anything, is "out there" in this category - - - but this is VERY good.
The only thing I know to compare it with are Madeline L'Engle's Austin Family series - because there is a solid moral core with realistic characters who have to make tough choices." -- Robert Trexler, C.S. Lewis Society, New York
"About a year ago, I was doubting even the most basic things, such as the Lord. I read your books... and after that, everything seemed to slowly even out, and now my faith is stronger than it has ever been. So thank you so much for these books - they've touched me and helped guide me in so many ways. Thank you so so so much....Your books are my all-time favorites...THANKS!!!" - Chelsea, 6/11/08 (full quote)
"I think that there needs to be more books like yours for teens because it shows that there are people out there who aren't afraid to share the faith, letting teens know that it's cool to have a relationship with the Lord. I think that's one of the reasons why so many people love your books, because it's an alternative to all the other books out there and it shows that you can love your faith, have a relationship with the Lord and still have fun and enjoy life." -- -- Anna D., 16.

Readers RAVE about Waking Rose
This year I received Waking Rose and The Midnight Dancers for Christmas. Though I haven't yet started Dancers, I devoured Rose in two days...I had to smile when I saw that Fish went to the University of Pittsburgh for graduate studies in English. So do I! … Thankfully, despite what Fish says, there IS a chapel right next to Pitt's campus—at the Ryan Catholic Newman Center, which is run by the Oratorians of St. Philip Neri. It is beautiful place, with three daily Masses and perpetual adoration, and the Oratorians are amazing priests. A great blessing!! :)

My comment on Waking Rose is, I love that book!!!! It is easily my favorite novel in the series. Please write another story about Fish and Rose, as they are my favorite characters...Thank You so much for writing these wonderful books, and I assure you, if and when you write more books in this series, I will buy them, because I like them so much! Thank you for providing us teenagers with some wholesome, good books. God's blessings upon you and your family!
Sincerely,
Rose

I just finished reading Waking Rose yesterday. With school and everything it took longer for me than the others, but I'd stay up till eleven every night reading it. I loved it! Thanks so much for this book Regina! I wish there would be more books for Bear, Blanche, Fish, and Rose. Can't wait to read your next one.

I loved Waking Rose! It was so good I couldn't put it down 'till I actually finished it--about four hours later. Then I picked it up and read it again. My best friend gave me the first book and that was all it took--I was hooked!
[...][I used to only read authors who were dead...] I love the romance in your stories. It's not silly teenage romance junk, it's more subtle, but it goes deeper. I like how real your characters are, and how literate they are!
Waking Rose is your best novel yet, and my personal favorite. Good luck with your future books!! I will read them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! -Carissa W., 15 years

P.S. Just thought I should add that stoic-old-unemotional-never-cries me CRIED at the end. Consider that a great literary achievement.
Thankyou SOO much for publishing Waking Rose regardless of all the problems you had trying to do so! It was (and I'm sure everyone would agree with me here!) GREAT!! I've read it twice already (I just had to read it again!) and have read my favourite parts countless times! As soon as I found out it was out, I ordered it almost straight away, but because I'm from Australia it took double the time to arrive (over three weeks!). It was so hard waiting for it! I had to practice patience greatly while waiting for it! Then I FINALLY got it, but mum said I couldn't start reading it till I got my work done (I homeschool) Oh my gosh, I'm sure I set a world record time of getting my work done that day!! I was planning on spreading this book out, seeing as it would probably be the last book on the Brier's, but it didn't happen. I read it for so long at night, then it started getting really late and I told myself after this chapter I'll stop, but 'after this chapter' never came!! I had to keep on reading on and on, I couldn't help myself! After I read it my mum started reading it, and I was dying for someone to finish it so that I could talk about it!
But anyway, back to the story! It was so life related, everything in the book, especially the characters and their different personalities, they were exactly the same as people I know. I was going through thinking to myself, yes this person is like that..etc! Also, I really liked Fish and, even though he told Rose he wasn't the one for her, he still made sure she was ok and all. Rose and Fish have never been my favourite characters, it has always been Blanche and Bear, mainly I think, because they're more like my character, but after reading Waking Rose, I've changed my mind! I really really liked Fish in this one. He was a great character, one that you would really want to get to know in real life.
Also, I loved the Cor brothers, they were so loyal to each other! It was amazing, there aren't many people that loyal around anymore.
And the whole medical part of it, it was so true all of it. My mum used to be a nurse and she is continually telling us about all the things some people do when people are in a coma.
I still can't get over how real everything seemed to me! It was as if I was really there! It was like make me a character so I can help out too!
Waking Rose was one of the best books I have read in a long time, if you were to ask me about the best parts of the book, my reply would be simple. "The whole book!" there isn't a part that could have been left out! I most definitely can't wait for the rest to come.
You really have such a great gift of writing Regina, and as everyone else has said, thankyou so much for sharing it all with us.
THANKYOU!!
Monique from Australia

I just wanted to thank you for Waking Rose. What a fantastic story! My older sister and I identify quite a lot with Blanche and Rose, so reading the rest of Rose's story was exciting for me, especially because, like Rose, I left home this fall for my first semester of college.
I asked quite some time ago if Rose would play her violin at all in Waking Rose. You said it wasn't in the manuscript at the time, but that you would try to add it. So, I loved the little gypsy bit at Medieval fest! It made me feel like I had somehow contributed to this wonderful series.
Thank you again! Your books are filling a great need for high-quality, exciting, and un-ashamedly Catholic teen novels!

I got Waking Rose this morning and finished reading it within twelve hours. It was amazing!!! I could not have put it down to save my life!! The book was definately worth the wait. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it, despite the hard time you went through. As a major fan (and an aspiring writer myself) it really means a lot to me.
Several things I wanted to comment on. One, where in the world did you get the idea for the Cor guys?!?!?! Those guys are amazing!!! Not only do they have amazing faith and humor (not to mention they can fight with swords) but they show a respect for women that is nearly impossible to find in your average guy today. If the Cor guys are based on actual guys you know [AUTHOR'S NOTE: They are! :-)] then I would LOVE to meet them!!

Waking Rose was such a splendid story..... I'm at a loss for how to put what I really think about it. I think I'm still mourning the fact that it's over! The end made me cry......and laugh, I was so happy. I'm so impressed by the way everything from the previous two stories fit so well into these ones!

I love all the books!
My sister read Waking Rose first and we could not get it away from her!
She started it at around 4:00 and finished it at 12:00. She only stopped to eat!
Then she gave it to my other sister and she read it till one in the morning!
And of course as soon as she was done, I grabbed it!
We really love it and all of the books. As If you could not tell!
Please write more! I really want to read The Midnight Dancers.

Well, I finished Waking Rose at 12:45 A.M last night. I read about 200 pages total yesterday because I couldn't put it down! What a spectacular book! I've always liked Blanche more than Rose, because her personality is a lot more like mine, but this book made me love Rose and Fish just as much as I love Bear and Blanche. Waking Rose was the perfect blend of romance, suspense, action, and comedy (the Cor guys...J)! I almost cried towards the ending when I thought a certain character's life was over. Thank you SO MUCH for using your FANTASTIC writing talent to write these awesome books for us.

Oh my gosh!!!!! I just finished Waking Rose and I loved every minute of it! I read it in less then 24 hours! I loved the theme about waiting for true love, and I can totally relate to Rose! I think that's what I like the most about the books, how realistic the characters are. This was by far my favorite book I have ever written. Every person in it reminded me of someone I know in real life. And I also love the way both Rose and Fish change spiritually during the book, and of course, I love the pro-life view weaves itself into this colorful story. Bravo!
Emma, 9/1/07
First off, it was nothing like what I was expecting, but was so much better! It was truly worth every moment I spent waiting for it to come out. Like so many others, I first would like to say thank you for persevering in publishing this story, despite all the tough times you went through along the way. It meant so much for me to know what you went through and to know how generous you were to give so much so that we could share this wonderful story.
Jessie, 8/29/07
I started this story the day I got it as I left on a trip to New York. Never trying that again. I had to stop one hundred pages to the ending and waited in dire suspense and no little frustration as the trip continued and I had no opportunity to read my story. I kept wishing I could skip to the end, just so that I could know how it ended, but I forced myself to wait until I could read it properly. I am so happy that I did because it means so much more when you see what they went through to get to that moment. I finally got to finish it this morning and the ending was perfect! I love it when you finish a book and you can say to yourself, "That is how it was supposed to end." And that is a rare occurrence, but for me, this was one of them!
I was also amazed by how you handled Fish's story. The characters were so vivid and the dialogue is great. Most of all, your prose has a really beautiful, fantastic style to it that I love and which I wish I could more accurately describe.

Hey!
I just had to say, that I positivly LOVED Waking Rose! It was your best one yet!
And also, I LOVED the Cor guys. They were awesome. I wish you had more of them in Waking Rose. They were hilarious! "This little light of mine"! I loved that part!
Chelsea, 8/28/07
I just wanted to write to you and thank you for never giving up on publishing this book. I know you went through many difficulties getting this book out to all of us. I also wanted to tell you I enjoyed this book SOOOOOO much!!! Thanks again and God Bless.
Jacqueline, 8/27/07
I finished Waking Rose late last nite... it's SOOO good!!!!!! I could point out everything I like in the book, but that would make a book in itself.
I think my favorite character was Alex. His character came out so strong from the beginning and I began to feel as though I know him personally. Awesome, awesome character.
All in all, an amazing book to finish up Rose, Blanche, Bear, and Fish's story.
God Bless,
Nyssa, 8/24/07
I just finished Waking Rose about two hours ago, and it was so good! It had the perfect blend of romance (I loved all the conversations between Fish and Rose!), adventure, and especially suspense. Rose is such an amazing character, and my favorite, I'm so glad that this entire book was devoted to her and Fish.
I really liked the part near the end when Fish is facing certain death in the barn and he understands that maybe God meant for him to die that way, to sacrifice his life for Rose.
The whole book was wonderfully written, I was so excited to get it, and it exceeded my already high expectations. It's not very often that a book makes me laugh out loud and shed actual tears!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for sharing your gift of writing!
Laura, 8/23/07
p.s. I loved the last words of the book, too! :)
I started Waking Rose about 9:00 PM or so, and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it at around 2:00 AM in the morning...It was an excellent book, especially as it got to the end. Very riveting, and intense... I enjoyed the Shakespeare in it, probably because my English class in my senior year had focused on Shakespeare. We'd read King Lear, so I went through that thinking "Hey, I know all about this!" That was cool. I also liked the way in which pro-life themes and ideas got woven into the plot in a natural way. It made for an incredible impact.
Oh, and I enjoyed Steubenville's "appearance" in the book. I did laugh to myself when I saw that Mercy College had a medieval festival in early October. That was pretty cool as well. So I'm wondering...was Sacra Cor based on an actual dorm/household...? Because those guys just plain rock.
And lemme see...I think, out of all the characters, Kateri was by far my favorite.

Here are some comments from proofreaders:
"You are going to love this third book in the Fairy Tale Novels series. Fencing. Fighting. Fire. Torture. Revenge. Knights. Nuns. Chases. Escapes. Rescues. True love. Miracles."
-- The Author's Husband.
I just read the first "draft" chapter of Waking Rose and I absolutely loved it! I read Shadow of the Bear and Black as Night the summer before last, after hearing how much a friend of mine enjoyed them. I got Shadow of the Bear after church one Sunday, and couldn't put it down. Then my sister read it. We loved it so much that the next week we bought Black as Night and devoured it as well. :) Thank you so much for your hard work and your wonderful books! I'm very excited about
Waking Rose!
