"At the time I was terribly confused about very fundamental things, like marriage, relationships, chastity, true love, true heroism. I was desperately looking around
for just one example of a couple who did things the right way, got married, stayed married, and did not regret it. I clung to examples that I found in books, mostly old classics, and fairy tales. A couple people close to me could not understand why I loved fairy tales so much. I don't think I really could have explained it to them, at the time. Then I found the book [The Shadow of the Bear] in the house of an acquaintence, and asked them to borrow it. In a time of my life when I was rather afraid of boys and men, I read your tale of the two young men, sleuthing the streets of New York City, risking their lives to bring the man who murdered a priest to justice. Bear and Fish were young, they were men, but they were strong and also kind. They were heroic. It was awesome."

"I don't have any idea of what, if anything, is "out there" in this category - - - but this is VERY good.
The only thing I know to compare it with are Madeline L'Engle's Austin Family series - because there is a solid moral core with realistic characters who have to make tough choices." -- Robert Trexler, C.S. Lewis Society, New York
"About a year ago, I was doubting even the most basic things, such as the Lord. I read your books... and after that, everything seemed to slowly even out, and now my faith is stronger than it has ever been. So thank you so much for these books - they've touched me and helped guide me in so many ways. Thank you so so so much....Your books are my all-time favorites...THANKS!!!" - Chelsea, 6/11/08 (full quote)
"I think that there needs to be more books like yours for teens because it shows that there are people out there who aren't afraid to share the faith, letting teens know that it's cool to have a relationship with the Lord. I think that's one of the reasons why so many people love your books, because it's an alternative to all the other books out there and it shows that you can love your faith, have a relationship with the Lord and still have fun and enjoy life." -- -- Anna D., 16.

Reviews of the Waking Rose
Rosemary Sauce Blog Review of Waking Rose
October 28, 2009
Waking Rose is a wonderful addition to the genre of Catholic Fiction. Although aimed at a teen audience, adults will enjoy this trip into the world of fairy tale as well. Regina says she takes her inspiration for the novels from G.K. Chesterton, who once wrote that fairy tales endure because they feature ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, and that they teach children not merely that dragons exist, but that dragons can be slain. Waking Rose continues that great tradition of good versus evil, in which despite tremendous odds, good eventually wins out. Catholic Exchange.com, 10-12-07
Modern day fairy tales for teens? Regina Doman, a Catholic mother and author, has gained quite a following among Catholic teens with her series of fairy tale novels written just for them. For fans, her recently released Waking Rose, based on the story of Sleeping Beauty, does not disappoint. It's a love story and an adventure. It's sweet. It's funny. It's suspenseful. It's real. My 12 year old daughter is just old enough to begin to appreciate this kind of literature and she made short work of this one, reading it in under 24 hours. Do a young lady (or a young man -- there's plenty of action in these tales for them too) in your life a favor: order her a copy of Waking Rose or one of Regina Doman's other popular teen titles. They will love you for it.

The climax is full of action and many twists and turns. The outcome is slightly surpring and the book worth reading.

In Regina's skillfully woven tale, the old conte de fée of the "Sleepng Beauty" merges into the horrors and struggles of our century, with all its potential for heroism and triumph. Highly recommended, I would especially suggest Waking Rose as a wonderful gift for teenagers and young adults.

Have you ever experienced the spell, the wonderful spell of a book so completely realistic and yet perfect, that you are utterly yielded to its magic? As someone who fell head over heels in love with reading ever since I learned how at four, I've read countless "good" books, many "great" books, and a delightful few "magic" books. Books that challenge and sift and inspire and offer a picture of deeper reality that leaves you relishing in the abundance of life truly lived. Of sacrifice nobly given. Of love freely chosen.

Rest and relaxation are supposed to be a part of our lives. Next time you need some, pick up Waking Rose, and enter into a fairy tale story that will captivate your imagination and renew your sense of justice. And it's always nice to have a story where wrongs are righted, the bad guys are defeated, and there's a happy ending.
